Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
💻 Practical Matters
1. Where are you licensed to practice? I am a Ph.D. Registered Psychologist (C.Psych./R.Psych.) actively licensed to provide psychological services via secure video to clients physically located in:
Ontario (C.Psych.)
Alberta (R.Psych.)
The Yukon Territory (R.Psych.)
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Nunavut, and Quebec (under inter-provincial telehealth regulations).
2. What are your fees and is therapy covered by insurance? My fee is $297 per 50-minute session.
Insurance: As a Registered Psychologist, my services are covered by most extended health benefit plans (e.g., Blue Cross, Manulife, Sun Life) under "Psychological Services."
Tax Deduction: Psychological services are a tax-deductible medical expense in Canada. Any portion not reimbursed by your insurer can be claimed on your tax return.
Reimbursement Model: To protect your privacy, I do not direct-bill insurance companies (they ask me too many intrusive questions when I direct-bill that they don’t ask you if you when you submit). I provide detailed receipts with my registration number immediately after payment for seamless reimbursement.
3. Do you offer evening appointments? Yes. I maintain a flexible schedule that includes evening appointments. Please view my Online Booking Portal for real-time availability.
🧠 Questions About Therapy
4. What can I expect in the first session? Our first meeting is a deep dive into what’s working well and where you are struggling to help me understand and develop a personalized plan for your anxiety. We will:
Analyze the specific anxiety or OCD patterns currently impacting your life.
Establish clear, measurable goals for our work.
Determine a collaborative "roadmap" for the frequency and duration of treatment.
5. I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help. Why is this different? Many clients come to me after years of "talk therapy" that felt unstructured or stagnant. My practice is different because it is protocol-driven and skill-based.
Focus: We use Gold Standard methods like CBT-I, ERP and mindfulness. This is less like a casual conversation and more like a strategic "anxiety school."
Measurable Progress: We don't just talk about the past; we build specific tools for the future. You will have "between-session practice" to ensure your gains translate to your real life.
6. How long does therapy take? Because my approach is targeted, many clients achieve their primary goals within 6 to 20 sessions. While some complex issues benefit from longer-term support, our goal is "efficiency over duration"—giving you the tools to become your own therapist as quickly as possible.
🌐 Logistics & Privacy
7. Is online therapy as effective as in-person? Absolutely. Decades of research confirm that secure video therapy is just as effective as in-person care for OCD, Insomnia, and Anxiety. I have been a pioneer in digital health for over 20 years. Before modern platforms existed, I was facilitating telehealth for rural communities and have since trained thousands of therapists on how to deliver safe, effective online care.
8. What do I need for a virtual appointment? A private, quiet space where you cannot be overheard and a stable internet connection. My platform is HIPAA and PHIPA compliant, ensuring your sessions are encrypted and secure.
9. Do you treat children and teens? My current online practice is primarily focused on adults, teen and young adults (ages 13+). However, I provide specialized Parental Consultations for parents of anxious children of all ages, helping you navigate the complexities of supporting a child’s mental health.
10. Do you provide medical-legal assessments? No. I do not provide medical-legal assessments, accept third-party payer cases (such as WSIB or legal claims), or participate in court proceedings. This allows me to remain purely focused on clinical outcomes and patient privacy.
